“Nord-Sud” is the standout track, a slowly-developing exploration of slide timbres whose narrative structure reminds one of textural improvisations by Henry Kaiser, early Jim O’Rourke, and Keith Rowe. Ryan is really interested in subtle changes of timbre and harmonic frequencies. The result is like watching shadows slowly make their way across a courtyard late on a summer Sunday afternoon.
