Yes Selma is the solo project of Chad Matthew Beattie. Ranging from minimalist dulcimer soundscapes to free jazz effected saxophone to country-inspired rock tunes, Yes Selma has been exploring sound for nearly a decade in various forms. Beattie is also a poet who has recently released two small collections of poetry, Satellite Rodeo and Sulfuric Bible. Originally from Baltimore, Beattie now resides in the mountains of Asheville, NC. He has no pets.

Primitive percussiveness accompanies repetitive duality, one hand following the next in hypnotic synchronicity. Overtones collaborate with undertones. Intentional explorations of microintervals resound a subtle sense of tranquility. The clunk of felted mallets clash against rusted steel string, reverberating through circular sound holes, bouncing from wall and ceiling through the open window into the flowing creak that leads down to the meadow. The sky is a fortress which sanctifies the trees, pulsating the dirt in a vast web of ancient root. The vibrations shoot through our toes like soft electrical beams of current, expelling from our mouths like microscopic star fragments, infinitesimal pellets of celestial matter. The light that runs through us is the light which we emit.

Mazes Of The 13th Moon is comprised of two 15 minute pieces of drone soundscapes, fluctuating between minimalism and maximalism, etherial and clatter, music and noise. Both pieces consist of acoustic hammered dulcimer, layers stacked upon layers, weaving in and out of auditory meshes. Influences stem from artists such as Laraaji, Charlemagne Palestine, Powers / Rolin duo, Tony Conrad, Eliane Radigue, etc etc. Other influences include mountains, rivers, skies, and dreams. It only makes sense that this recording found its way onto Ramble Records, where the avant-garde blossoms seamlessly.
