about

On July 31st, 2012, SABOTEUR was released as my debut album signed as Vitor C./Vitor Colares. Now, ten years later, AGRESTE – ANTOLOGIA PESSOAL BY VITOR C./VITOR COLARES has been released by Ramble Recs. Throughout this period, I’ve worked on 17 albums and all of them are available on the internet for streaming and downloading. On this new anthology, I introduce you to a selection I made to give a broad perspective of my music production in the past decade by drawing a non-linear chronological timeline that crosses this piece as one would tell their own story in a furiously nostalgic noir film, voluminous at times, but with quick cuts at others. Flaming inside, red-introspective. I compile my music work here with the albums: Eu Entendo a Noite Como um Oceano que Banha de Sombras o Mundo de Sol, SABOTEUR, Fotografia de Rachadura and ARRUAMENTO, passing by the trilogy VEREDAS and concluding with some film soundtracks.

Last year (2021), I created with some other experimental artists in the city, the label Outradança. A label that conveys experimental music, audible poetry and noise. As a guitar player, I began in music like this… From 1998 to 2002 I played in some underground bands of my city, Fortaleza, and in 2004, with George Frizzo and Eric Barbosa, we put Fossil together, a very prominent national band. Somehow, we manage to keep it alive up to this day, even though we, the members, live in different cities in Brazil. I also play in dronedeus and NUN; bands that are different in style but have the collaborative and creative work in common. Furthermore, I direct the morphing collective cozilosVIVOS, and this year we’re working on a new album called Canção Pop Sem Refrão.

Alongside all of this, as I mentioned before, I work with soundtrack creation for cinema, audiovisual, live performance, theater and art installation. In the past few years I’ve made the soundtrack for feature films such as Inferninho (directed by Guto Parente, Pedro Diógenes and Grupo Bagaceira), Medo do Escuro (directed by Ivo Lopes Araújo), Pajeú (directed by Pedro Diógenes) and Desvio (directed by Arthur Lins). This year I’ve started a project under the title of Tomentosa Tez, where I release albums and recordings of my researches in guitar and voice mixes.

I was born in Parangaba, but raised in Messejana, both peripherical neighborhoods in Fortaleza, capital city of Ceará, in the northeast of Brazil. I like to say that I am a restless body cross-town, most part of the time guided by guitars and noise. I see myself as a composer, not a musician. Noiser, maybe. I also love Brazilian music; full of masters and entities. Finally, as Fernando Pessoa once said:
“The poet is a faker
Who’s so good at his act
He even fakes the pain
Of pain he feels in fact.”

And I say that I can’t “fake” something else.

Thank you, Micheal and Ramble Recs
Good audition to all!
